Child Therapy in Lakewood, Colorado
Helping children feel seen, safe, and connected—while supporting the people who care for them.
Children do not always have the words to explain what they are feeling. Stress may show up through worry, withdrawal, behavior changes, big emotions, sleep difficulties, school challenges, or conflict at home. Therapy can give children a developmentally appropriate place to express themselves, feel understood, and build skills for navigating difficult experiences.
SUPPORT TAILORED TO YOUR CHILD
The Secure Attachment Initiative provides attachment-based, trauma-informed outpatient therapy for children ages 4 and older. We consider each child’s age, development, strengths, relationships, culture, and experiences when shaping care. Treatment is collaborative and paced to help your child feel safe rather than pressured.

HOW THERAPY WITH CHILDREN WORKS
Children often communicate and process experiences differently from adults. Depending on your child’s age, needs, and the therapist’s training, sessions may include play, creative expression, movement, conversation, mindfulness, and relationship-based activities. These approaches can help children understand emotions, practice coping skills, and develop a stronger sense of safety and connection.
CAREGIVERS ARE PART OF THE PROCESS
Parents and caregivers hold important knowledge about a child’s history, strengths, routines, and relationships. Your therapist will discuss the most helpful level of caregiver involvement, which may include parent check-ins, family sessions, or strategies to use at home. The goal is to support the child while strengthening the relationships around them.
OUR APPROACH
Our therapists work from an attachment-based and trauma-informed perspective. We pay attention not only to symptoms, but also to the experiences and relationships that may be shaping them. Your child’s therapist will build treatment around your family’s goals and explain recommendations in clear, practical language.
IN-PERSON AND TELEHEALTH OPTIONS
Children can meet with a therapist at our Lakewood office. Telehealth is also available throughout Colorado when online care is clinically appropriate for the child’s age and needs. Our team can help you explore which format may be the best fit.
