Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy

Clear answers about outpatient therapy, insurance, telehealth, and getting started at The Secure Attachment Initiative.

THERAPY SERVICES

What types of therapy do you offer?

We provide attachment-based, trauma-informed outpatient therapy for children ages 4 and older, teens, adults, couples, and families. We also partner with Colorado schools to provide school-based mental health services.

What concerns can therapy help with?

Our therapists support people experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, emotional dysregulation, relationship difficulties, family conflict, school stress, life transitions, and patterns connected to attachment or painful past experiences. Care is individualized around each client’s needs and goals.

What does attachment-based, trauma-informed therapy mean?

Attachment-based therapy explores how important relationships and past experiences shape the way we understand ourselves, manage emotions, and connect with others. Trauma-informed care emphasizes emotional and physical safety, choice, collaboration, and respect. Your therapist will work at a pace that feels manageable.

What therapeutic approaches do you use?

Depending on your needs and your therapist’s training, care may draw from Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), somatic approaches, narrative therapy, mindfulness, and other experiential methods.

CHILDREN AND TEENS

How do you work with children in therapy?

Therapy with children is adapted to their age, development, communication style, and needs. Sessions may use play, creative expression, movement, conversation, and relationship-based activities to help children understand feelings, build coping skills, and strengthen connection.

Can parents or caregivers be involved?

Yes. Caregiver involvement can be an important part of therapy, especially for younger children. The therapist will discuss how and when to include caregivers while respecting the child or teen’s developmental needs, privacy, and treatment goals.

How does therapy support teenagers?

Teen therapy offers a respectful, confidential space to work through anxiety, depression, trauma, identity, friendships, family conflict, school pressure, and emotional regulation. When appropriate, therapists may include caregivers to improve communication and support progress at home.

Is the Teen Intensive Outpatient Program currently available?

Our Teen Intensive Outpatient Program is currently paused. We continue to provide outpatient therapy for teens. Please visit secureattach.org/iop for the current program update or contact us if you need help identifying an appropriate level of care.

INSURANCE AND PAYMENT

Do you accept Colorado Medicaid?

Yes. We accept Colorado Medicaid from every region. Our team can verify your coverage and help you understand your benefits before you schedule.

Private-pay options may be available when insurance is not being used or does not cover services. Contact our team for current rates and options.

GETTING STARTED

How do I request an appointment?

Visit secureattach.org/contact or call 719-645-2551. Tell us who is seeking therapy, what support you are looking for, your preferred format, and your insurance information. Reaching out does not commit you to treatment.

How will I be matched with a therapist?

Our team considers the client’s age, primary concerns, preferences, scheduling needs, insurance, and each clinician’s areas of focus. We will help identify a therapist who may be a good fit.

What should I expect at the first appointment?

The first appointment is generally an intake session. You and your therapist will discuss your concerns, history, strengths, relationships, and goals. Together, you will begin creating a treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Is your practice LGBTQ+ affirming and inclusive?

Yes. We are committed to providing a welcoming, respectful, and affirming environment for people of all identities and family structures.
