Trauma Therapy in Lakewood, Colorado

Helping you feel safer, more connected, and less alone with what you have carried.

Trauma is not defined only by what happened. It can also involve what was missing, how alone you felt, and the ways your mind and body learned to protect you. Trauma therapy offers a compassionate place to understand these responses, build a greater sense of safety, and move toward healing at a pace that respects you.

TRAUMA CAN TAKE MANY FORMS

The Secure Attachment Initiative provides attachment-based, trauma-informed outpatient therapy for children, teens, adults, couples, and families. We support people affected by acute events as well as experiences that occurred repeatedly or within important relationships. You do not need to minimize what happened or have a specific diagnosis before asking for support.

TRAUMA THERAPY MAY SUPPORT YOU WITH

WHAT TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE MEANS

Trauma-informed therapy prioritizes emotional and physical safety, choice, collaboration, and respect. Your therapist will not ask you to move faster than feels manageable. Together, you can identify strengths, develop resources for regulation, and decide when and how to explore painful experiences.

AN ATTACHMENT-BASED APPROACH

Trauma often affects how we relate to ourselves and others. Attachment-based therapy considers how early and important relationships may shape trust, emotional regulation, self-worth, and connection. The therapeutic relationship itself can become a steady place to experience being understood without judgment or pressure.

HOW WE WORK

Depending on your needs and your therapist’s training, treatment may draw from Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), somatic approaches, narrative therapy, mindfulness, and other experiential methods. Your therapist will explain their approach and collaborate with you on a treatment plan.

HEALING DOES NOT HAVE TO BE RUSHED

Trauma therapy is not about forcing disclosure or reliving every detail. Early work may focus on trust, stabilization, understanding protective responses, and building skills for staying present. Treatment can then develop according to your readiness, goals, and circumstances.
