Family Therapy and Counseling in Lakewood, Colorado

Helping families feel seen, safe, and connected.

Families can care deeply for one another and still become caught in painful patterns. Conflict, stress, trauma, changing roles, or major transitions can make it difficult to communicate and feel close. Family therapy offers a supportive place to understand what is happening between family members and build healthier ways of responding to one another.

A SPACE FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

The Secure Attachment Initiative provides attachment-based, trauma-informed family counseling. Therapy is not about identifying one person as the problem. Your therapist will help family members recognize patterns, understand the needs underneath conflict, and create more safety, clarity, and connection within the family system.

FAMILY THERAPY MAY SUPPORT YOU WITH

Frequent conflict or communication breakdowns

Parent-child or caregiver-child relationship difficulties

Sibling conflict and changing family roles

Separation, divorce, remarriage, or blended-family transitions

Grief, trauma, or other painful experiences

Behavioral or emotional concerns affecting the family

Parenting stress and differences between caregivers

Intergenerational patterns and attachment wounds

WHAT TO EXPECT IN FAMILY THERAPY

Family therapy is tailored to the people involved and the goals you identify together. Sessions may include the whole family, caregivers and children, partners in parenting, or different family members at different times. Your therapist will explain recommendations and help create a structure that supports meaningful participation and emotional safety.

AN ATTACHMENT-BASED APPROACH

Our work is informed by attachment theory, trauma-informed care, and emotionally focused approaches. We look beyond surface conflict to understand the fears, needs, protective responses, and relationship patterns underneath it. The goal is to help family members communicate more openly, respond with greater understanding, and strengthen their capacity to navigate challenges together.

SUPPORT FOR CHILDREN, TEENS, AND CAREGIVERS

Children and teens experience family stress in developmentally different ways. Therapy may include age-appropriate conversation, play, creative expression, movement, and practical strategies for home. Caregivers remain important partners in understanding the child’s needs and helping change continue outside the therapy room.

INCLUSIVE FAMILY CARE

We welcome families across identities, cultures, structures, and stages of life. This includes biological, adoptive, foster, blended, chosen, multigenerational, and LGBTQ+ families. Your therapist will approach your family’s experiences and values with curiosity and respect.

IN-PERSON AND TELEHEALTH OPTIONS

Families can meet with a therapist at our Lakewood office. Telehealth is also available when clinically appropriate and participating family members are located in Colorado. Our team can help determine which format may work best for your family.

INSURANCE AND PAYMENT

We accept Colorado Medicaid from every region and all major commercial insurance plans except TRICARE. Coverage for family therapy varies by plan and may depend on medical necessity and how services are billed. Our team can verify benefits and explain known coverage, copays, deductibles, or private-pay options before scheduling.

READY TO TAKE THE NEXT STEP TOGETHER?

Reaching out does not commit your family to treatment or require everyone to agree on every concern. Tell us what has been happening and what you hope might change. We will help identify a therapist who may be a good fit for your family. Visit secureattach.org/contact or call 719-645-2551.
