Life Transitions Therapy in Lakewood, Colorado

Helping you feel grounded, connected, and supported through seasons of change.

Even positive changes can bring uncertainty, grief, or a sense that the life you knew no longer fits. You may be adjusting to a new role, questioning what comes next, or trying to stay steady while several parts of life shift at once. Therapy can provide space to understand the transition, reconnect with what matters, and move forward with greater clarity.

WHEN CHANGE LEAVES YOU FEELING UNSTEADY

Major life changes can affect identity, relationships, routines, confidence, and emotional well-being. The Secure Attachment Initiative provides attachment-based, trauma-informed outpatient therapy for teens and adults navigating expected and unexpected transitions.

LIFE TRANSITIONS MAY INCLUDE

Beginning college, entering adulthood, or living independently

Starting a new job, changing careers, or losing employment

Moving, relocating, or adjusting to a new community

Marriage, separation, divorce, or changes in a relationship

Becoming a parent or adjusting to a growing family

An empty nest, retirement, caregiving, or aging

A new medical diagnosis or change in physical ability

Identity exploration or shifts in values and priorities

Grief, loss, or the end of an important chapter

Feeling stuck between the life you had and what comes next

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE IN CRISIS

A transition does not need to be traumatic or overwhelming to deserve support. Change often brings mixed emotions: relief and sadness, hope and fear, freedom and uncertainty. Therapy offers a place to make room for the full experience without rushing you toward an answer.

A SECURE BASE DURING CHANGE

Our therapists create a collaborative environment grounded in safety, choice, and respect. Attachment-based therapy explores how relationships and earlier experiences may shape the way you respond to uncertainty, seek support, or protect yourself during change. Trauma-informed care helps ensure that treatment moves at a manageable pace.

HOW WE WORK

Depending on your needs and your therapist’s training, life transitions therapy may draw from Internal Family Systems (IFS), Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), somatic approaches, narrative therapy, mindfulness, and practical coping strategies. Your therapist will explain their approach and shape treatment around your goals.

SUPPORT ACROSS AGES AND STAGES

Teens may need support with identity, changing friendships, school pressure, graduation, or preparing for adulthood. Young adults may be navigating college, work, independence, relationships, or questions about who they want to become. Adults may be adjusting to parenting, divorce, career changes, caregiving, health changes, an empty nest, or retirement. Therapy is adapted to your circumstances, development, culture, and strengths.

WHEN CHANGE BRINGS ANXIETY, GRIEF, OR DEPRESSION

Life transitions can sometimes intensify anxiety, low mood, grief, or past trauma responses. Your therapist can help you understand what is happening and determine whether support should focus on the transition itself, related symptoms, or both. Care is collaborative and does not require you to fit your experience into a single label.
