Couples Therapy and Counseling in Lakewood, Colorado
Helping partners feel seen, safe, and connected.
Relationships can become strained even when both people care deeply. Repeated conflict, emotional distance, broken trust, parenting stress, or major life changes can leave partners feeling unheard and alone. Couples therapy offers a supportive place to slow these patterns down, understand what is happening beneath them, and create new ways of connecting.
A NON-BLAMING PLACE TO UNDERSTAND YOUR RELATIONSHIP
The Secure Attachment Initiative provides attachment-based, trauma-informed couples counseling. Therapy is not about deciding who is right or assigning fault. Your therapist will help both partners recognize the cycle that keeps pulling them apart and explore the emotions, needs, and protective responses underneath it.
COUPLES COUNSELING MAY SUPPORT YOU WITH
Recurring arguments or communication breakdowns
Emotional distance, loneliness, or disconnection
Trust concerns and relationship repair
Difficulty expressing needs or responding to each other
Parenting stress and differences in parenting approaches
Intimacy, affection, and emotional safety
Major transitions, grief, or changing family roles
Questions about the future of the relationship
WHAT TO EXPECT IN COUPLES THERAPY
Your therapist will take time to understand each partner’s perspective, the history of the relationship, and the patterns that emerge between you. Sessions focus on creating enough safety for honest conversation, helping partners respond differently during difficult moments, and strengthening the relationship as a source of support.
AN ATTACHMENT-BASED APPROACH
Our work is informed by attachment theory, trauma-informed care, and Emotionally Focused Therapy. These approaches look beyond the surface of conflict to the deeper fears, longings, and protective strategies shaping the relationship. Treatment is collaborative and tailored to your relationship, identities, values, and goals.
INCLUSIVE RELATIONSHIP SUPPORT
We welcome couples and partners across identities, orientations, cultures, and relationship structures. Our goal is to provide a respectful environment where each person can be understood without judgment and the relationship can be explored with care.
IN-PERSON AND TELEHEALTH OPTIONS
Couples can meet with a therapist at our Lakewood office. Telehealth is also available when clinically appropriate and participants are located in Colorado. Our team can help you determine which format and therapist may be the best fit.
INSURANCE AND PAYMENT
We accept Colorado Medicaid from every region and all major commercial insurance plans except TRICARE. Insurance coverage for couples counseling varies by plan and may depend on medical necessity and how services are billed. Our team can verify benefits and explain known coverage, copays, deductibles, or private-pay options before scheduling.
