Depression Therapy in Lakewood, Colorado

Helping you reconnect with hope, energy, and the parts of life that matter.

Depression can make daily life feel heavy, distant, or exhausting. You may be going through the motions, withdrawing from people you care about, or struggling to imagine that things can feel different. Therapy offers a supportive place to understand what you are experiencing and begin moving toward greater connection, meaning, and relief.

WHEN EVERYTHING FEELS HEAVY

Depression is more than having a difficult day. It can affect sleep, motivation, concentration, relationships, school, work, parenting, and your sense of self. The Secure Attachment Initiative provides attachment-based, trauma-informed outpatient therapy for children, teens, and adults experiencing depression, low mood, and emotional disconnection.

DEPRESSION MAY SHOW UP AS

Persistent sadness, emptiness, or numbness

Loss of interest in activities or relationships

Low energy or difficulty completing everyday tasks

Changes in sleep, appetite, or concentration

Irritability, frustration, or frequent tearfulness

Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, or hopelessness

Withdrawing from friends, family, school, or work

Feeling disconnected from yourself or others

Difficulty imagining a more hopeful future

WHY DEPRESSION CAN FEEL SO ISOLATING

Depression often tells people to pull away at the very time they need support most. It may be connected to loss, chronic stress, painful relationships, trauma, life transitions, or patterns that developed as a way to cope. Therapy can help you explore these experiences with compassion rather than judgment.

ATTACHMENT-BASED, TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE

Our therapists create a collaborative environment grounded in safety, choice, and respect. Attachment-based therapy explores how relationships and lived experiences may shape emotional needs, self-worth, and the ways you seek or avoid connection. Trauma-informed care helps ensure that treatment moves at a manageable pace.

HOW WE WORK

Depending on your needs and your therapist’s training, depression treatment may draw from Internal Family Systems (IFS), Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), somatic approaches, narrative therapy, mindfulness, and practical strategies for daily functioning. Your therapist will explain their approach and shape treatment around your goals.

DEPRESSION SUPPORT ACROSS AGES

Children may express depression through irritability, physical complaints, withdrawal, or changes at school. Teens may experience isolation, loss of motivation, hopelessness, or feeling misunderstood. Adults may feel emotionally numb, burned out, disconnected in relationships, or unable to keep up with daily responsibilities. Therapy is adapted to each person’s age, development, circumstances, and strengths.

WHEN DEPRESSION AND TRAUMA OVERLAP

Depression can sometimes be connected to trauma, grief, or painful relationship experiences. Your therapist can help you understand whether numbness, shame, disconnection, or hopelessness may be part of a broader protective response and discuss treatment options without forcing disclosure.
